"Take it as it comes"

Hello, it's been a while and this is bitty. I've been a shoddy blogger but let me share a ramble because I'm irked and concerned.

With the inclusion of 'new' (so they say) feminism in magazines like Grazia and Company and super Caitlin Moran flying the flag for all-inclusive ever-so-slightly-bumbling feminism I should be overjoyed not irked. However I can't help but notice there is little mention of male feminists in this 'new feminism' and how the fundamental idea of feminism being a filter through which you see life and so accept and promote equality in all its guises is now becoming a bit of a fad with some creating new stereotypes. I'm hearing and seeing feminists talk about their fashions as a representation of this new found feminism and considering how I've long hair, an array of dresses, enjoy perving at boys and have spent most of the day folding and washing clothes I'm not feeling too fashionable.

Seriously sisters, let's not alienate others by creating new stereotypes when years of work has been going into ensuring that's exactly what not happens.

Rant over, I love the new Vivian Girls video AND still want to stamp on the patriarchy! Don't worry about how to be when you're a feminist, just er.. take it as it comes!

P.S. I have recently read this:
It's wonderful, so cleverly put together and I do love meta fiction. Human stories all intertwined and all to a background of music; it made me smile and shed a tear. It's also one of only a few books I've had bought for me since being a grown up and that makes it super special too.

P.P.S.  Educating Essex is pretty good at showing this teaching lark in all its glory. There's no bureaucratic guff but the basics of why we do it is all there. Bet Jamie Oliver couldn't do that.
